Have I Answered All of Your Questions?

This is a great way to find out if the interviewer would like you to elaborate on anything you’ve discussed. The hiring manager will appreciate the offer to revisit anything they may still be wondering about, and it can help you gauge how you’ve done. If they say, “no, you’ve answered all of my questions thoroughly,” you’re probably in good shape. If they say, “Actually, could you tell me a little bit more about XYZ,” it’s your chance to fill in any important blanks before you leave the interview.

In Your Opinion, What Are the Best and Least Desirable Aspects of the Company Culture?

If you want to feel happy and satisfied with your job, you must like where you do it. Hopefully, the hiring manager talked a bit about company culture during the interview, but asking them to elaborate on their opinion about the culture can be very telling.

Your priorities and preferences as far as culture may differ from the interviewers, but asking a direct opinion often elicits a more candid response than the standard company line. If you want to hear a little more about an aspect of culture, ask follow-up questions to dig deeper.

What Is the Turnover Rate for the Team I’d Be Joining?

It is highly unlikely the hiring manager will offer up turnover rates unless their ability to retain employees is second to none. It is important to ask, so you can get a sense of the company’s ability to keep tech employees happy.

If the hiring manager seems evasive, or the turnover rate seems high, take it as a sign the company could have management issues, a poor culture or they aren’t investing in the success of their IT professionals. If you don’t feel great about their answer, it might be best to consider keeping your options open and looking for a more supportive and engaging work environment.
